Mallari as known to everybody is a musical form played on Nagaswaram at the outset of any deity’s procession. It is in a way, a signature tune and anyone can easily understand that the temple diety has commenced the rounds. The form and compositions of Mallari are generally believed to be the off-shoots of ‘Prabhandham’. Even though there are possibilities that the word “ Mallari” may have a tamil origin, we cannot say from which language it originally is. “ Malla ” means wrestler or Palanquin bearer and “ Ri ” means the voluminous sound produced by the palanquin bearer when they carry it. An agama “Dhvajarohana vidhi” speaks about a tune called Mallara that should be sounded when the deity starts from its abode. The Mallara might have by the course of time, corruptly gained the name “Mallari”. Interestingly, there is a raga called Mallara a janya of Kharaharapriya (22 nd Mela) with the scal...
03 March 2012, marks another significant day in my life, as I was chosen as the Ist Runner Up, in JAYA TV VIVEL CARNATIC MUSIC IDOL 2012, once again, now the 2nd year in a row, by 'Destiny'. Once again the full house at the Chettinad Vidyashram Hall, instilled a chill down my spine, and of course I must say, some moments from the last year's competition flashed across my mind, as if it happened a week ago. I feel really blessed to have received the award from Padmavibhushan Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr Balamurali Krishna, one moment which I would cherish for my life. I can for some strange reason feel a sense of destiny over all these events, and am eagerly waiting for the challenges lying ahead. A big thank you to my Beloved Gurus, all my Well Wishers.. and a lot of hugs to my family. Let all your blessings guide me forward..
First of all my congratulations and best wishes to Team India, though i was terribly disappointed at Sachin missing the "Century Of Centuries", I am glad that now he has the chance to fulfill that dream of every Indian, at the Grandest Stage Of Them All, the world cup final, at his home ground, the Wankhede.. Honestly, I am annoyed at hearing all these baseless doubts that the Semifinal was fixed.. And more over it is not coming from the Intelligence Dept / Police, or the Pakistanis who lost the match, or from the ICC.. these doubts come in the mind of Indians. Some times i feel only we can think like this.. ( as Actor Vivek often says.... athu thaan nammala paathu Worlde naduguthu..lol ). What it does is nothing but degrade the charm of our hard earned victory over arch rivals. The doubts have been raised by many of my friends... And these are the reasons they have, to support their 'ridiculous' claim. I have my own answers for them 1. Why did not Pakistan ta...
