12th March, 2011 - Thanks to the Indian Batsmen...

Thanks to Jaya TV , Pothys and Carnatic Music Idol...

As Seshagopalan Sir mentioned in his address to the candidates, the candidates who participated in the contest are enviable for this one reason - It gives them the exposure that a 100 concerts give, definitely not the experience, but as regards the popularity, it is equivalent to innumerable number of radio programmes.

Rasikas recognise us the moment they see us... which can never be attained in such a short span of time through any medium other than the television.. Great to see Jaya TV giving this programme ( which when compared some others aired by the same channel), though having a niche audience (hence a narrower range.. atleast outside Chennai), the prime slot in the morning as well as in the evening.

The point I am coming to is that.. thanks to the exposure given by this programme, and by the grace of God and my Gurus, I have been blessed with a bunch of concerts at Chennai over the past couple of months.

Thanks to a lot of people, but still i must recognise some of them by their name - Subramaniam Sir, who runs Hamsavinodini has been a huge source of encouragement and patronage, Sri Ganesh, who by himself is a musician, settled in Chennai, is another person who is down to earth and willing to lend his helping hand at any time. Thank You once again.

Along with them i would love to thank some others who would have never even heard about me....The batsmen of Indian Cricket team!!!!

Carnatica hosted a series comprising of the finalists from the last two years of Carnatic Music Idol. I also got an opportunity on that account and performed at Arkay Convention Centre, Mylapore on the 12th of March 2011.

Yes that day only...... India vs South Africa.. the marquee clash of the ICC CWC... needless to say that Chennai.. known for it's Cricket history and also the knowledgeble followers of cricket (who even gave a standing ovation to the Pakistani Cricket team who visited India after a gap of 8 years or so at chepauk), would have been glued to their sofas wth abottle of coke and a packet of lays. Things were looking good for India as Sachin and Sehwag got off to a flyer...

5.00pm  -  at Arkay Convention Centre, I was the 1st person to reach the venue.. Concert scheduled to start at 5.30 pm. Honestly i didnt expect a huge turnaround as my mobile buzzed.. Sachin makes his 99th international century.

5.30 pm -  Entered the stage, .... was astonished to see a decent number of people present in the auditorium.. really cant figure it out what exactly happened with the match.. As time moved forward, the audience grew in number..

6.15pm - By the time the main piece started, i already had the largest audience i ever had at Chennai....:-)

Minutes later on i received another message, when listening to the next concert held at the same venue...
' Indian batting collapsed... 7 wickets lost for 29 runs...'

Though it will be a crime to say that the audience who were present there were forced to switch off their television and come to the auditorium, by the recklessness of our batsmen that day - I was happy that i did not cause the rasikas (who made it a point to come to the venue and encourage youngsters like me) miss anything spectacular from the Indian players that evening...

And a huge Thank You to all those well wishers and rasikas ..... ( as a favour to them, i saved them from witnessing the debacle at Nagpur...:-))
